It has been a very tough and emotional last few days.

I had so much work to do last week. I'm a rural child abuse investigator and immediately following Ringo's death my after-hours on-call week begun.

Of course I was bombarded with P-1 (respond within two hours, most urgent) child abuse reports including two back-to-back reports that kept me out until 4am on July 4th.

On Thursday night, I had a very long and vivid dream. I've forgotten most of what I dreamt but I still remember in that dream petting Ringo and thinking that I couldn't feel his bones any more, that he felt like the happy healthy cat he was for most of his short life. That saddens me more than anything and I'm crying all over my keyboard just typing that.

When I got home from work yesterday I had a letter in the mail from my vet signed by Ringo's vet and all of her staff, with a copy of the Rainbow Bridge. It was very kind of them.

It might be a while before I get another pet.

My greatest comfort has been my other cat Chiquita.
Her and Samantha were never buddies in spite of my best efforts, I always felt it was sad, their lives would have been better if they were friends.
I showed Chiquita Samantha's body and she sniffed it, I wanted her to know that Samantha was gone forever.
Chiquita is very happy being the only child now, I don't hold that against her, she's 12 years old and I want her to enjoy the rest of her life.
I'd like to have a house full of cats, I envy those who do have multiple cats who get along.
I'm pretty sure Chiquita wouldn't tolerate another cat and it wouldn't be fair to her.
When the pupil is ready the teacher will appear, when you are ready another cat will choose you.
Meme a cat the girls at the office rescued chose me to be her person and I had no choice in the matter, I was helpless to her unconditional love.

Just a note to say sorry for your loss of your dear friend Ringo - how cool that he has come to check in with you via your dreams. I am sure you will always feel connected to him...
