Default Little Cleo

We had to put down one of my cats today. Cleo just turned 15 in June and has had a pretty healthy life, but started not doing so well just a few weeks ago. I brought her into work because after viewing her xrays it looked like she had a blockage in her stomach, and she wasn't eating or drinking anything. After new xrays this morning, my vet was concerned so I took her to a nearby ER vet for an ultrasound. There we found that the blockage was likely bile stones, and that the much more serious issue was that her gallbladder had a serious infection. They tested fluid in her lower abdomen and she was septic. She was also icteric - we knew from taking her to an ER vet last weekend that she had bilirubin in her urine, but from Saturday to today it had spread to show yellow on her skin and in her eyes. The only option would have been very complex surgery, costing well over $5-7,000 but even with it she had less than a 50% chance of even surviving the surgery. So I called my little brother (he's 22, its his cat), and he came from work and we had her put to sleep. I know I was emotional over it, but seeing how heartbroken my little brother was, just made it very hard to handle today. RIP little Cleo

I'm so sorry for your loss, you made the right decision, it just not right to put an elderly cat though that kind of ordeal.
3 months ago my beloved Samantha was diagnosed with tumors around her spleen and in her intestines, she was 16 and the only option was complex surgery and even if successful would only buy her a little more time racked with pain and discomfort.
I hope you and your brother can look uopn the 15 good years you had with Cleo and not the last sad days.

It's so hard when you have a pet you love and you have to send it over the rainbow bridge because you can't afford the costs.

A similar situation happened to me in November.
RIP Cleo. I know she had many wonderful years with you.

It's so hard to make that decision. I'm sorry for your loss.
