If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should wake me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won.
You will be sad : I understand
Don't let your grief stay your hand
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years
What is to come will hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Do not grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been close -we two- these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Amazing! That's the only word I can use to descrbe it, well maybe a masterpiece of finely crafted words woven into a bittersweet story of what many people have to face at some time with their animals. That brought back memories of times I've feared losing my animals and, even though I'm a guy and I should be ashamed to admit this (I am a little

) I had tears in my eyes, too. It's very touching, definitly worth a read for anyone who's lost a pet. Thanks for sharing it with us, lexxie.

Bittersweet. I just cant seem to hold my tears when something like this happens. It happened to me. I know what am i talking about.

I haven't lost a cat yet, but I have lost other animals, and that poem really brings tears to my eyes. It is so true...and well written. I really wish animals didn't die so soon
