I found a feral mom a few months ago and was able to get her inside the house because the neighbors were going to call animal service which would have killed her right away. She gave birth to 5 kittens who will be 3 months old on December 15. I CANNOT keep the kittens (will keep the mom because she would be killed right away) but the nicest Humane Society here still has a high rate of killing especially cats because they have no room, especially during the holidays/new year.
Can ANYONE help with this? Does anyone know rescuers in the Miami or Broward counties in Florida? Or any good people that are fosters? Or any really nice people willing to adopt for life? Mom and I are desperate because we really feel bad for the poor kittens. |

Mailyn, what happened with the kittens? And are you going to spay the mother, I hope?
Everyone is swamped now. People have used the economic recession/depression as an excuse to abandon their cats at triple the normal rate; that's what the directors of both local (to me) shelters have told me, and we know that this means that the abandonment rate on the streets and in the woods/fields has more than tripled. It is time for all good people to kick in and help. I strongly advise you to keep the kittens, get them spayed, socialize them, and advertise them. People who used to think that having more than two cats was absurd, for example, need to revise that attitude. Private foster homes are up to over thirty cats per home now. Going much beyond that would tip the careful balance maintained between the cats in such homes, and would make the maintenance of cleanliness and peacefulness very difficult. Please find a low-cost spay/neuter program and get those kittens and mother spayed right away; please. Good luck!
