I also love it when a cat arrives late to the festive Friday dinner, so he doesn't know that all the others' bellies are full and no one wants to or can eat any more meat. He suddenly sees a bowl full of yummy meat and slowly approaches it, but is afraid to touch it because such good food will probably have several dominant cats attacking any cat that dares touch it.

So his eyes keep darting around, but the dominant cats are nowhere to be seen or pass him by with a look of indifference. He starts eating anxiously, swallowing the food as fast as he can before the others come to chase him away from the bowl, yet no one comes.

He then goes into phase 2: he's still sure he's going to be chased away but he's now eating continuously, not just stealing a morsel here and there in between looking around him.

Phase 3 is when they start eating at a normal pace, thinking that if they're chased away, they've at least had a good portion to eat.

The funniest part is when they realize that they're already full, can't eat anymore, and no other cat has disturbed them, so there was no sense in being anxious all along.

As you guys already know... i have 2 semi feral cats. Smokey and his son(i guess) baby grey. Baby has an extra toe on his front paw. Its sooo cute..

He is so skiddish though. I would love to trap him and get him a good home before the snow comes. Only problem is i have to figure out a day to trap him on a day that my mom will be home all day. Then we could call the vet or humane socity to see if they can take him. He is sooo cute...he would need a quiet home where someone would love and care for him.

Now smokey....hes simbas & blues dad. he is a nice looking cat. I love his markings. He is a little shy. I have to work on him getting used to me. But its getting colder now and i dont want to sit on the porch waiting for him to "join up" with me. A while ago i was able to give him canned cat food with him sitting only a few feet infront of me. Then when he finished half of the can... i went over to him to get the can and let him eat the other half. he backed up...but then went back to the can.

Soooo if i can trap him that would be great. I think he would enjoy the indoor life.

When i took in simba, blue and there mom brynie...they all adjusted well.

I was recently "forbid" to feed my colony. Well, you can guess how long that lasted. I moved the feeding station into the woods. I put the food down, turned around, then decided to move the bowl, but it was too late. Mr. Marcel was already nomming on the food. I spent the better part on an hour edging closer and closer until I was sitting on the log with the bowl on my lap. Marcel was by my feet, and I was dropping bits of food, trying to catch him without a trap(He is young and has a chance at a home, but the people trapping wouldn't try to do right by him probably). Suddenly Ms. Rose showed up, all hissy and threatening at my side. I gave her some food but she was torn between filling her belly and making sure I knew to stay away from Marcel.

I managed to get a hand on him, but he flipped out so I let go, not wanting to hurt him. He took off, and Rose stayed there, yelling at me for a bit, then she went back to eating and Marcel came back. I have since decided to leave Marcel with the colony. I don't think management knows the two of them are back there, as I have only ever seen them in those woods. Since then, we have come to an understanding, Marcel is allowed to get as close to me as he likes, while Rose yells at me and stuffs herself. Marcel eats just as much as he wants too.

Marcel licked my hand the other day. My heart skipped a beat.

Not really heartwarming, I just wanted to share. That little family is quickly becoming my favorite cats in the colony.

i forgot a couple of things about limpy. you can see in the picture his left rear paw sticking out a ways from his side. that was the leg he broke so he really likes to extend that leg out so as to stretch it. he often likes to sit on a tree branch and just let that leg dangle in the air. the other thing you can see in the picture is that he did not get ear tipped. since he went to the hospital as an emergency it just sort of slipped the vets (as well as my) mind.

thanks Greenport ferals

it is too bad that i don't have a picture of him that provides any sort of a scale to show his size. although i can not pick him up like he was a fully socialized cat i can lift him maybe a foot off the ground and move him a couple of feet. based on that i estimate that he is at least 15 lbs and is all muscle. when he hears me arrive in the morning and comes running it is just too funny to watch him. with how muscular he is the only analogy i can make is that he looks like some kind of a steroid head body builder running, almost like his front legs don't bend.

i am really proud of him, with the traumas that he suffered i never would have believed that he would not only be letting me pet him but allow me to pull ticks out and even give him doses of revolution.

Maybe not a real feral story, but a dumped cat story...15 years ago, I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment in a suburb of Houston. One day, a blue coated cat appeared, probably dumped. I resisted feeding him so he would move on, but he stayed around getting thinner by the day. My downstairs neighbor started leaving out food, and called him 'Church'. But them the neighbor moved away, leaving Church behind. One day, I saw Church in the parking lot, rail thin, eating a bug, and just had to do something. I started leaving food by my front door, but the landlord saw it and reminded me of the 'no pets' clause in the lease. Then I left food on the balcony, and showed churce where to find it. You should have seen him climbing the balconies to to get there! I took him to get neutered and get is exam and shots. He was still a healthy, young boy. My new downstairs neighbor worked for Petsmart, so i arranged for her to take him to an adoption fair. Church was adopted right way by a young man who had recently given his own cat to neighbors that had grown attached to it.

That is a sweet story about Mr. Church. (and may I say a great name for a kitty)

I managed to snag a few photos of Marcel and Rose the other day. Here they are for your viewing pleasure:

Rose is on the log, kind of hard to see.

Marcel

Very blurry, these were taken with my phone, sorry.

He is even cuter in person, I promise.

And no I am not in jail, LOL that is the banister of my porch.
