I just want to thank you all. This thread is just awesome. I want to switch to raw so badly, but everything gets more complicated in my country (in terms of availability, prices...) I am switching no matter what, but I have a lot of concerns. The biggest one is to get my cats used to raw, since I suspect my older cat Gatito won't like it at all. My other concern has to do with the fact that I usually leave at 7 am and I come back at 5, and good canned food is just not available here in this country (only Science diet and to make it worse it is ridiculously expensive) so I don't know how to solve that. And well...many other concerns...but I'm willing to do what is best for my kitties. I hate kibble, and I hate what it does to my cats.

Anyway, I just wanted to say you are all wonderful, that this forum has helped me and my kitties so much, and that I'll be eternally grateful.

Hi, Cas! Welcome to Cat Forum!

No, just like it's never too late for us to improve our own diets, it's never too late for us to improve our furchildrens'. ;-}

Hi there Cas, welcome!

We have a 17 year old that we switched over to raw at age 13. We started him out on ground raw, and after a year of transition he can eat whole quail bones and chicken necks no problems! He loves chewing through big chunks of meat too. His teeth are amazing now!

I wouldn't be surprised if that dandruff goes away with the raw...so keep at it!

I've found my kitties don't like cooked eggs. They love raw egg. So far I've only given them the yolks I don't use in my own egg white omelette. I plan to ask the vet when we go next week if its ok for them. I've given egg yolk twice now (1 yolk per cat) with no ill effects.

Cas- my older kitty had very plaque covered teeth and a few the vet warned would need to be pulled if left to rot. He no longer needs any extractions! I also have a chihuahua who I switched to raw when I got her, and 6 mths later took her in for her dental - she had to have 9 teeth removed AND they said her jaw was like jello. From lack of care before I got her. She does fine with raw now! Just takes a bit longer to eat some things.

Egg yolks are perfect to feed raw, whereas the whites need to be cooked. So, good job! Feeding them seldomly is a great little treat for a kitty.
