Default Policy on posting links

Hi,

I'm confused. Links in my posts have been removed, but I've seen
other posts with links.

What are the rules?

Thanks,

Harv

The links can't be to sites with sales, asking for donations, sites with links to other cat forums, sites with non-family-friendly language or content, etc.

Also there seem to be a lot of people posting on old threads lately, and those posts are simply deleted.

I'm confused about posting on old threads. Why is it a problem? Yeah, I can see if it's a post from 2003, but what if it's your own thread that you want to post in. For example, I want to post an update on a semi-feral/stray female cat that I first posted about sometime around mid November-mid December 2010. Would that be allowed (provided I can even find the original post in the first place)? Why not just post a response saying that it's an old post and then lock it?

During these past two weeks, there have been members posting on threads from as far back as 2003!!!!! Most members know not to post on old threads, we're not going to go through thousands of them and close them at this point. I think the reason it happens most of the time is from a search. You pull up a thread with someone having the same issue as you and post a reply. And when someone asks for an update from an 8 year old thread, it is annoying.

Updating your own thread if it's only a couple months old is fine.

Well, I know it's more than a couple of months old. I know I posted about this kitty sometime in late 2010. I just don't remember if it was November or December. Heck, it may have even been sometime after I lost Smokey.

Well, I was close. I posted about her just a few days before I lost Smokey. Anyway, I did revive that post because of the wonderful update I have about her. I hope it's okay, since the original post is just over one year old.

I posted a link to the humorous cartoon series with two cats...
Bennie and Scootch, I think. It was removed. I don't understand why.

Some of the Two Lumps cartoons fall into the non-family friendly category. Though considering that kids these days know more curse words than I do, family-friendly is getting harder and harder to enforce. Just turn on the radio and/or TV.

So we're a G-rated forum? We have kids under 18 here?
I wouldn't have expected that. But okay. At least I understand
now. Thanks.

Enable your PM settings. I'll PM you with a more in depth explanation, but probably not until later tonight or sometime tomorrow.
