This document is designed to clarify various responsibilities of community members here at the http://www.catforum.com
Please read it and become familiar with it, it's terms are retroactive and agreed by team and group members. These rules are SUBJECT to change at any time by the admins and mods of this site.
1. Forum rules
a. Posts are to be made in the relevant forum. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting. Users consistently posting to the wrong forum may be given a warning (see policing below). Do not create duplicate posts.
b. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming
or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning or ban.
c. Members are asked to not act as "back seat moderators". If members note an issue which contravenes something in this policy document they are welcome to bring it to the attention of the Cat Forum Moderators. Only do this if a Cat Forum moderator member has not replied within 6 hours. Members who consistently "act" as moderators may be warned.
d. Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.
e. Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to or asking for information on warez, crackz, etc. or re-printing material without permision will receive a warning and their post will be removed.
f. Members should respect the bandwidth of other users and sites. The use of inline () image tags pointing to data stored on third party systems for which the user has not received permission to link to may be removed.
g. Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing".
That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.
h. Members should use an appropriate, descriptive title when posting a new topic. Examples of bad titles include; "Help me!", "I'm stuck!", "I've got an error!", etc.
i. Members are welcome to use the test forum for general "test purposes".
These may include checking signatures, testing a link or image, etc. (subject to previous points on decency, warez, etc.). Users posting in the test forum just to increase their post counts will be warned.
j. Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. This includes posting a URL to your services, affiliate links, or a competing web site. It also includes sending spam via private messages. Users posting spam will be warned and their post removed or edited.
1. Requests for donations or items for sale in the text, signature, or website, are strictly forbidden.
k. The moderating, support and other teams reserve the right to edit or remove any post, signature, profile picture, and/or avatar at any time. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, drama, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Moderators and not users.
l. The above forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above) and/or the revocation of private messaging.
M. Stay on topic (Actually, we all wander off topic a little from time to time - but at the end of the day, these Forums are meant for discussing our cats). If you want to post on topics other than about cats, then please do so in the Off-Topic Lounge.
N. Extensive editing of a post, old or new, to remove flaming or other infractions of the rules will not be tolerated and will result in a warning.
O. Usernames may not be email addresses or URLs. URLs to competing cat websites are not allowed in a users profile.
P. Posting a suicide note (any post, signature statement, stating that you intend to leave the site because you are unhappy with our policies/administration or intended to create drama ; ie, "You guys are mean, I'm taking my ball and going home") will result in your immediate banning. We assume that since you are leaving, you will no longer need access to your account anyway. If you should happen to change your mind, you'll need to contact the admins directly to explain and/or apologize before you can be reinstated.
Q. "I'm back" posts are considered the opposite of "Suicide" / "I'm leaving" posts. The only exception to this is an "I'm going to be away" post or something similar. "I'm back" posts are suitable only if you have been on holiday or something happened at home which caused you to be away, and which you want to share. Being away from the forum for a few weeks does not give reason for an "I'm back" thread. These threads will be removed and those members who post such threads repeatedly will be subject to a possible warning.
R. Members on the forum are only permitted one account. Members found with more then one account will have the additional accounts banned from the forum.
S. Please respect our sponsors – do not post about competing products/brands in their section
a. Signatures may contain up to five lines (one line being that displayed on a browser opened to 800px width) of text (of small or normal size)
and/or one image, valid combinations include; a single image of no more

c. Links are permitted in signatures. Links are included within the text and image limits above. Links to offensive sites may be subject to removal. No links are permitted to competing cat websites. No affiliate links are allowed.
d. Users abusing these rules will be warned.

a. Cat Forum operates a three strike policy. Users will be warned a
maximum of three times for any and all offences in a three month period.
If the need arises for a fourth warning a temporary ban will be put in place of between 1 to 7 days. There is an exception to this rule. If the violation is deemed to be severe or blatant it will lead to an immediate ban without warning.
b. Public arguing in regards to the sites rules or enforcement will lead to a warning. Any arguing with team members after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. Insulting, and disrespectful behavior via a PM will also lead to a warning. Should this exceed three strikes a temporary ban will be put in place as above.
c. Users who feel they have been unfairly warned are welcome to contact
catman. If he feels you were treated badly he may remove a warning.
d. Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban will lead to that ban being
made permanent. Circumvention includes re-registering under a non-banned username, changing IP addresses to evade an IP ban, registering a new email account of evade an email ban. Circumvention includes posting as an anonymous user.
e. An exception to the three strike rule applies when users contact team
members personally (via any method) and post insulting, indecent or vulgar material. Such users may be subject to an immediate permanent ban.
f. Permanent bans are a last resort and thought is given before implementing them. While the Cat Forum may consider lifting permanent bans from time to time this is a rare occurrence.
