Cinderella's annual exam

She came through with flying colors!

Except for her teeth. Is $600 for teeth cleaning average? They gave me a complete printout of everything that is necessary and what might be necessary, depending on what they find. So it could be as high as $1,000+, but that's only with several tooth extractions and oral surgery. The tech I saw said she believed Cinderella's total will be closer to $450 because of Cinderella's age and she can't see anything major by looking at her teeth (but you never know what you're going to find once you start scraping).

Cleo was there to get her FVRCP shot, because she's never received one. I felt kind of bad for her because they lavished all the attention and love and gushing on Cinderella. Cleo's pretty, too, and she was such a good girl. So she got special treats when we got home. Shhhhh, Cinderella doesn't know.

Well, $65.00 is for the blood test required because she'll be under anesthesia, then the anesthesia, then the monitoring, then post-monitoring, the dental scale polish itself is $92.00. Actually, adding up everything that's necessary and nothing that isn't -- barring any problems - it is about $425-450. She has gingivitis and her teeth really need a cleaning.

Is the $85 just for a regular teeth cleaning (brushing?)??

That's awfully high. I priced dentals about a year ago and figured on around $150 tops, but not including any extra work that might be discovered.

I think that's much too high, Marie. And I think Cleo's beautiful!

Thanks, Jeanie (for Cleo).

Well, maybe I'll cancel Friday's bloodwork appointment and shop around. I just hate the thought of going to a vet I don't know.

I think that's just a San Diego price. I would try to find a vet farther inland. Better yet, clean her teeth yourself. I have never had a cat with a tooth problem. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, of course, but I have had a LOT of cats.

Well, it's not just a cleaning, it's a "scraping" - maybe that's why it costs more. It's to remove placque and take care of the gingivitis of the gums. Now I actually wish I was at work because I could ask around. Well, I think I'll cancel the bloodwork - I can reschedule that up to 3 days before the appointment, which isn't until July 17th.

I think that's really hefty Marie. Maggie had her teeth cleaned last fall it was $225 without any extractions. But it also included a full senior blood workup rather than the routine check which was about $40 more. So $185 for a cat of Cinderella's age.
