Does Your Cat Have Phases?

I've noticed that Rookie goes through phases of her likes and dislikes. For over a year now, she has happily jumped up on the bed in the morning and snuggled with us until we get up. In the last few months, she has stopped doing that all together, and just lies on the floor instead. When we first adopted her, she did like cat beds; within the last year she's had nothing to do with them, and even peed on the last one I brought home. And I'm kind of sad, because most of these changes have been moving away from being more cuddly and approachable, toward being more solitary.

Does your cat go through phases like that?

Oh yes, it's always something new.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; she'll probably cycle back around to that phase sometime in the future.

Oh my gosh! Cinderella has phases for what she'll eat, where she'll sleep, when I may speak to her, how to address her, which tiara she wants to wear....

This has been Cleo's phase since she got here, but she's getting better:

I think Rookie is too warm to snuggle. Nina spent much of the winter sleeping with me and Blueberry. However, she has a long coat, and it's cooler on the floor. I'll bet she'll be back when the weather changes.

That's an excellent point. My cats don't much care snuggling during the summer, either. I noticed that the first summer I had them and thought they didn't like snuggling any more. But when the weather cooled, they were back.

Yup...all kinds of phases....and the 'it's summertime, I'm too hot to snuggle' is a very normal thing. I was really wondering about Holly for the last few weeks because she hasn't been sleeping in the headboard cubby at all, and that's been her spot since she got here in Nov. I finally figured it out...she doesn't like the ceiling fan over the bed...the last couple nights have been very cool and I had it off or on low (instead of medium) and she's been back. Guess she doesn't like the breeze ruffling all that long fur...

All my long-haired kitties have had the "don't mess up mah hair" thing. Sometimes, just to mess with them, I'd fluff their coat against the grain. Of course I made sure they were in a playful mood first.

Toby goes though 'rounds' as to where the best place to sit is - 'Which windowsill shall I sit at and look at the world from for the next two weeks?'. And he does though patches of being affectionate and then being a bit 'scratchy-bitey'.
