Allergy Question.

Someone told me that if you have a female cat instead of a male your allergies won't be as bad. Any idea if this is true? I wouldn't know. I have a female and a male and I spend lots of time with both of them.

Don't believe this has anything to do with allergies at all. You are actually allergic to the saliva/dander, not the cat specifically, so I don't see how their sex would affect an allergy.

I'm allergic to cats.

Yes I know

And during my allergy testing I was told I was most allergic to un-neutered Tom cats.

So yes, one can apparently be more allergic to male cats than female. Just dont ask me why! But thats just my experience. Somebody else's may be different.

What do you take for your allergies? I am also allergic to cats but I don't know if one gender is worse than the other. I am also allergic to other things, so my medication covers it all. I had a friend who was also allergic to cats and didn't take anything. Whenever her allergies acted up she bathed the cats...that worked for a couple weeks, then she'd bathe them again. Poor kitties.
