just a little rant

I just wanted to get this out of my system

I live in Kansas, and we have a huge university veterinary medical center in town. This has been great for the cats in terms of quality health care, but it takes an act of Congress to actually get a vet to call when you need it. The vets cycle so often that you never get the same vet twice, and their filing system is so screwed that they can't handle me not having my husband's last name; each of our 3 cats has two sets of records and it takes 15 minutes just to sort that out EVERY SINGLE TIME we go in.

As you might suspect, I've been trying to get hold of someone at the vet med center for a followup on my cat Simon, the one who has these tummy problems that won't go away. The two vets I dealt with just a month ago are gone, and no one will call me back. So frustrating.

Anyhow, I'm off to go post pics of the kitties in that other thread, it'll cheer me up.

It must be the student interns filing the records.

LOL no joke - when in doubt, blame the interns

They still haven't called so I have to go to a vet in another town. After talking to that vet, he thinks the local vet med center screwed up Simon's diagnosis anyway. If so, I guess I should try to call some supervisor at the vet med and complain. This is ridiculous.

It's the same for any human hospital/clinic associated with a medical school. they shine for handling strange stuff, but they are still learning the day-to-day patient management. It's the price you pay to go there.
I used to help train Residents doing their Family Practice rotation. There's a lot to learn.
