The many and varied joys of cat ownership

Last week Tuesday .. Ugly one of the ex ferals got into a cat fight .. we arent exactly sure what happened as it was pitch dark ..... she vanished and i spent two days calling and calling her .. we knew she was under the house but she didnt want to come out .. Thursday evening I hear a sorrowful meow and there she sits on the spare room bed ... i go up to her to check her over and can see immediately there is a problem with her mouth .. she is hungry but cant eat .... so next day its off to the vet .. now we are an hour from the vet .

The vet sedates her .. has a good look and tells me her jaw is broken , but her condition is so good it will be easy to fix ... yeah right .. he is just worried because she is feral and handling her will be difficult .... we leave her with him and he operated yesterday .... he loves her says he , lovely cat very friendly ????????????? okay .... we go and fetch her this evening .. she is all taped/collared and tubed and we need to feed her through a tube for the next ten days ... i have a "ward" all ready for her recovery ... bring her home and let her out of her carrier and she gets all purry and lovey dovey .... I sit with her for ages while she does her "thing" .... since she tamed she is the most lovable cat this one.

Anyhow I decide to leave her to her own devices while I see to the rest of the gang ... and I hear her "skittering" on the wooden floor ...and then an almighty crash .... running to her "ward" I see she has removed all of her padding/tape/tubes and collars .....

I phone Jeremy who cant belive she has managed to remove his artwork !!!!!! so tomorrow she has top go back to get "tubed " up again ....

I think what must have happened is she was so happy at being home she went loopy and then crashed into something with her collar and of course being ex feral she probably went a little wild and ripped everything out.

Poor thing now she is confned to her carrier to prevent more damage ..... but she is so cuddly ...... she just wanst to purr and be held .....

Jeremy (the vet) will be lending us a cage to confine her in.

Malibu (ex-feral) never got very lovey until after she recovered from her near-death experience with hepatic lipidosis.
It must be something about knowing they will die without us that changes them...

I'm so sorry this happened. I think our cats know when we're trying to help them.

That's sad, and yet also sweet. I agree that they know when we are helping them, and I think they also know when they need to "ask" for our help, as your kitty clearly did - and that's why so many of us hit ourselves over the head when we think of the signs they were giving us in retrospect. But luckily you got her message loud and clear and were able to get her good care.

I feel that Rusty "asked" me for help by coming (collapsing) onto our patio and letting me put him in a carrier.

I'd agree - and he must have known you'd give it to him.
