Cat had a little snack.

We have a small fishtank with a few little fish in it. This has a tight lid and the cat can not get in. And she really just ignores it for the most part.

Well, I decided I needed a bottom feeder to keep the tank clean but wanted something more interesting then a catfish. The guy at the pet store recommended these little fresh water shrimp.

I got a couple and put them in the tank, no problem. Yesterday, I noticed one was missing. They're too big for the other fish to eat. I was stumped. This morning I found another shrimp, who managed to climb out through a little hole in the tank lid. It was kind of pulling itself along the talk lid heading for the edge. Then it kind of jumped and landed on the floor, not far from my cat's dish. I got it back in the tank and put some tape over the hole.

I think I solved the mystery, although she ain't talking.

regards,
Brian

Next time, make sure you don't order the depressed, suicidal shrimp!

I had a snail that comitted suicide almost the same way.

I have a 20g fish tank and at the time it was my only snail. One night I heard a crash and we didn't know what it was. We did not bother until I went to feed the fish and noticed that the snail was not in the tank. I looked everywhere but couldn't find it. Until I looed in the back of the tank and notice that he was laying there. I thought he was dead but he wasn't. Next night he did the same thing but I did not find him until the next day when he was already dead!

We did not have Kiddles at the time.

Well, at least one of the shrimp is still alive, because Woodsman put it back. I've had fish jump out too. And I never found the remains of a little frog....

Could it have got outside and survived? ...well, maybe not a PA winter, but perhaps a summer? Or got into a houseplant and lived for a while then turned into fertilizer?
I hate not knowing the fates of the things in my care... I'd have to make up a story to settle myself.

I thought you were talking about the shrimp for a second there.

Well the 2nd one hasn’t made another break for it. I think the tape over the hole will keep him in.

I’d imagine the other one’s last thoughts were something along the lines of:

“Hey look at me, I’m evolving! wait...what’s that coming this way?”

Ahh the circle of life.

This frog lived in the water. I think it was an African frog...very small variety.
