is this okay?

hi,

is it okay to have only one cat? i've been researching and reading saying that if you're away from the home a lot then you should have at least 2 cats. i work all day so i'd only be able to spend early a.m. and evenings with my future cat...
is that enough?
I only want one cat.....but if it's a question of the cat's health/well being, i'll get 2.

thanks in advance...

D

It's okay to get only one. I would adopt an older cat, that specifically states "ONE CAT ONLY HOME" though. No point in adopting a kitten and making it live alone.

Plenty of members have "one cat" homes.. and their cats do wonderfully. We have four, and I do notice everyone is happier with someone to play with/speak cat/groom/bother.

That said, all four of our cats still CRAVE out attention... they love us too.

Re: is this okay?

Tiger is the only kitty in the household and he loves it!
He wouldn't be happy if I got another kitty.
It's perfectly fine!!

If you are getting a kitten or a young cat, I'd really suggest 2. But if one cat is all you're really ready for, then I would echo the previous suggestion and get an older cat, or a cat identified as needing to be in a single-cat home.

I agree about the mature cat billed at the shelter as being best in a one-cat home. Sounds like a purrrrrfect match for the both of ya.

Having one cat is just fine. Like others have said, some cats are labeled as "should be the only cat" and let's face it, no matter what age they are, they really do sleep most of the day away. I can come home at noon, two or four, and I always wake them up.
