I just got back from a trip to Boston/New York during which i got to meet my two adult cousins (and two baby cousins) for the first time. Growing up in Texas, I never had the opportunity to meet my New England relatives until this past weekend.

While sitting in my cousins kitchen, her cat, Homer, hopped up into my lap and I began petting him and he started grooming my hand. I smiled and said, "Family has a flavur" without really thinking that the lolcats reference would probably not be understood. To my great surprise they both started laughing hysterically. They are also Lolcat enthusiasts. We ended up bonding over our cats. We all three have boy cats, and we each have an orange cat. We ended up having a great time and I have our mutual love of cats to thank.

So it begs the question, is loving cats a hereditary thing?

Hmm, interesting question. You might have inherited a tendency to like felines. It's probably among all those so-called junk genes that we have.

Me & Mom love cats. I think we're the first in our family to worship the ground cats walk on.

That's one of the biggest things I've learned since having a cat -- there are a LOT of cat lovers out there. I've developed friendships with people at work who I had never really talked to before, all because we both have cats. You don't have to look too far!

I can't think of a single cat among any of my family or extended family ... cousins, grandparents, anybody ... while I was growing up. So I have no idea where a love for cats came from. Most of them had dogs. But as for now.....after getting married, my sister has had cats ever since, and her daughters, my nieces have cats. My brother's daughter, my other niece, had a cat. They now have a dog, but it's a very small dog, no larger than.....a cat!!

It must have been a recessive gene.....one of those generation-skipping things.

My mother hates cats. She literally treats her cat like trash, and her dog gets the RAW diet.

My dad loves all pets, and I'd say he's a 'cat person'... though he denies to the death he hates pets.

I adore cats. Totally a cat person. My mom raised me most, but in all other ways I am JUST like my dad. So.. maybe?

Hm. My boyfriend loves cats. Has three of them. I finished his genealogy last night. Turns out he's my cousin, eight times removed. Maybe it is a family thing.
