what kind of cat is this?

Hello all,

i know most people dont like when someone comes to a forum new and automatically starts a thread, so im sorry about that, but i would really lik some help identifying what type of cat this is.

http://z.about.com/d/cats/1/7/o/u/2/TC640x531.jpg

i know its a persian, but can someone possibly be more specific? i would really like to be able to adopt/buy a cat that would be similar to this guy.

i lost my cat a couple years ago and think i am finally ready to get a new one.

thanks everyone!!!

Yes, that is similar to a Persian, but are you sure you're ready to take on caring for a cat that obviously requires extremely high maintenance? It would take hours of grooming each day to maintain that sort of appearance. And with a coat that long, if it's not maintained properly, we're talking mat city. And let's not even discuss the health problems often associated with purebred cats of that sort.

Not to discourage you, more a reality check

That is, if you're not a troll.

i have had a cat with long hair, so i think i will be ok. it wouldn't be a show cat, so i wouldn't be spending hours and hours and hours

I'm not sure. It could be a Norwegian Forest Cat, or possibly a Main Coon Cat. But with all that fur it's hard to see the shape of the nose to tell if it's really a Persian. I looked at the Image Properties, too, to see if there might be a link to a breeder, and that was no help.

You could start by researching on Cat Fancier Assn (CFA) breed section, or the International Cat Assn (TICA) website.

Here's the section on Bi-Color Persians at CFA:
http://www.cfa.org/breeds/profiles/persian-bic.html

From there, you can start to find breeders, cat show schedules, etc. Have fun!

Fran

P.S. Last spring we researched British Shorthairs exactly this way, and ended up with our grey girl whom we adore...

Yeah, I saw that also. Maybe it's a PhotoShop cat.

He looks like a smoke Persian cross to me. Maybe a smoke and bi-colour cross? I say cross, because I don't think smoke Persians should have those white splotches.

I'm just going off my cat breeds book. Hope that helps!

due to the decidedly flat face..... id say its just a persian!! possibly photoshopped fur color.

I don't think the colour is photoshopped... it's possible for a cat to have that kind of colour. Smoke Persians should have an undercoat that's as white as possible, and the tips of the hairs should have dark shading. That could explain the weird/uneven kind of grey fur he has. And, smokes should have orange eyes.
