Last years barn kittens...

...Are the reason why I'm getting two kittens tonight

At the stables where I keep my horse, one of the barn cats had a litter of kittens, but when they were only 4/5 weeks old the mother was killed on the road, so a lot of the horse owners "adopted" the kittens.

I would have taken 2 at the time, but unfortunately I was still living in the city, and my apartment building didn't allow pets.

How cute were they?

Not long afterwards they were joined by 2 more, slightly older, orphan kittens, and then we had a barn full of kitty playfulness.

This was my favourite kit:

Over the course of last summer they all disappeared, though I think at least a couple of them got adopted into the local neighbourhood.

After seeing the kits last year I was determined that I would have one (or two) this year... and tonight I'm off to see a litter of barn kits... so hopefully many more photos will follow.

Enjoy

Aww, they were all so cute. I hope that you find 2 perfect kitties for you.

You're going to take them in as house cats, not barn cats?

They are way too cute to be true, and I agree the brown tabby with the white stripe up his nose would be my favorite. Your pictures are great in that barn setting! You should have a cat photography studio in there.

The two which I'll pick tonight will be indoor/outdoor cats, hopefully properly domesticated.

A lot of (well, most) barn cats are not neutered here and their offspring are routinely culled by the farmers. So the two I'll be picking tonight I'll be rescuing, as the litter was going to be culled at the weekend. It's hard though, because I can really only take 2, and there are 9 in the litter

When you say, "culled", you mean killed?

How very sad. I wish the owner would spay some females instead of killing those babies. I'm glad two little lives will be saved.

I think that was last year's litter, Maria. I loved the little black kitten with the white bib. I hope they are still alive...and neutered.

How sad about the mother cat!! poor babies!

I dont understand (if thats what you meant) how anyone could kill kittens on purpose. Put up a free kittens sign! Problem solved. but maybe, just maybe, you may have to care a little bit in the meantime... enough to provide food and water..... for the poor kittens who lost their mother...

i just cant stand humans sometimes. Too many people use their power over creatures for bad. i hate it.

id have to take home all of them and at least adopt them out of my home, where i know theyll be alive until then!
