Should we get our kitten a companion?

Hi,

Wonder if you can help.

My partner and I recently bought a beautiful cross-persian kitten at just under 9 weeks old. She left a family of 3 cats yet settled in with us immediately. However, after a week she started crying a lot and begun scratching and biting us a lot. Having had cats all my life I know the general 'rules' so make sure I reward her when shes good and am firm with her when shes naughty.

When shes good shes adorable but recently we've been struggling with her behaviour. We started to question whether she may be lonely as she is used to company.

We have now been offered a male persian kitten and are wondering if they are likely to get on. We are being told that a companion will be the perfect solution but given a persian cats nature ie placid and laid back, will this cause more problems or will it maybe keep her occupied and calm her?

We would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Many Thanks. Lovely forum

I think she will probably bond with a new friend. I'd get another kitty. She'll never be lonesome.

Thanks Jeanie, wow that was quick!

I think you're right. We were just unsure about when is the good time to bring in another cat. i guess at 11 weeks shes still young enough to adapt. I just hope she and a persian will hit it off!

We nearly gave her back to the owner at one stage as we were so concerned about her being lonely. Its so heartbreaking!

I think we'll opt for the other kitten!

As long as you can afford it, I would get her a buddy.
She's still a baby though so I wouldn't expect all her naughty, attention wanting behavior to stop but having a partner in crime will help keep her occupied. And I just think, in most cases, it's better for them to have a furry friend.

Cats are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Of course you should get the other kitty.

Now... you must put up pictures of your current sweetheart.

Ha Ha! I LOVE the potato chip reference.

Hey, we called her munki for a reason!

I think I'm just so used to persians that I'm not used to this bitey-scratchy business. You're right, she'll grow out of it and despite hating it, I have started spraying with water. It seems to do the trick.

A picture is on its way of Madam!

Yes, kittens are naughty...but they're so lovable too! Such pictures of innoncence....when they're sleeping!

I don't believe that I am the first one to use the potato reference , but it's the truth.

Well you've made us very happy knowing that this is the right thing to do. I just hope she doesn't savage the persian!
