Only some cats make my boyfriend allergic... I wonder why?

Hi guys, I have a question.

My boyfriend is allergic to cats, but only to some cats and not all. One day, there was this neighbor cat we were petting outside of our house, and my bf reacted to it and had very red eyes, accompanying with itchy red bumps on his neck.

But then... when I had my kitten ( Yuki ), he had no allergic reaction to it and is perfectly fine. Do you guys know whats going on? Is it possible to just be allergic to some cats, and not all?

My dad reacts the same way. He reacts to Bosco by getting itchy, and getting red, watery eyes. But with Reyna he doesn't react at all.

He also reacted to a former foster we had that was 19. I have a feeling older/adult cats have more or maybe a certain kind of dander then kittens and that is why my father reacts to Bosco and not Reyna. I think that may be whats happening to your boyfriend as well.

I am the same way. Ironically, I react to Bob's hair the most when I brush him, and he is a short hair. I make sure that I take Benadryl after I brush him.
