news item for Petco shoppers in MidWest...

My favorite consumer news website had an article about Petco in trouble for unsanitary conditions in their warehouse for the MidWest region...the article recommends washing canned goods and glass jars, watching your pets in case of illness...!

Here's the link:

I read about that at one of the horse forums I visit. Georgia isn't supplied by them, but I do look at all items I buy, taking special note of cleanliness and clean/unmarred packaging.

You would think their business would suffer because of their bad reputation.

Without participating at animal-friendly websited, I'd never hear about it. I feel the general population just shops, figuring if the shop is big it must be good, too. The population is getting conditioned to shop at specialty big-box stores.

Petco? It doesn't surprise me, all the Petcos I have been are dirty!
I buy everything from a very small pet store including my turtle's wax worms!

I've seen their merchandise on the shelves, and worse, I've seen their back room (what there is of it). My cans always get rinsed off because they get warmed up in a bowl of hot water. You really think I should wash them, too? It's only canned stuff I buy. The article says the FDA advises washing them, but I dunno.....sounds rather extreme.

The petco we go to is clean. But of course I've never seen the back room. The floors are clean, all fish tanks are cleaned with no dead fish in them. All the items on the shelves are clean. There are some cans of food with dents in them but I've seen that at other places to, not just petco. But can never be to cautious and will start wiping off Macy's cans of food.
