I have kitten fever...

Hey everyone... SOoooo, for about a year and a half now I have had major kitten fever. I want Andie to have a little friend/sibling. But, the problem is, I dont think Andie wants a friend/sibling! lol! She is 9 years old now. And for those of you who dont remember, she got diagnosed with IBD last year and eats a really strict diet of Venison and Green pea canned food 3 times a day Andie also HATES cats. She has only ever been in contact with my mom's cat.. and only for brief periods, but she is very nasty and hisses at her.

Now, I think it's most likely not a good idea to get a kitten b/c I am afraid Andie will get very upset and then it will mess with her diet... b/c she wont eat (like when she is at my parents house). Plus, I am thinking about ways to keep Andie from getting to the kitten's food. Anyways, I came on here to see if you guys could let me know if I am being too paranoid and that things could be fine, or if you can give me more reasons why getting a kitten with a 9 yr old IBD lifetime only cat is a bad idea! Andie is my number one priority! Little diva that she is!

Speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't mess with a good thing.

I'm with Marie, I wouldn't rock the boat now. You'd be risking Andies happiness and health. Introducing a new cat is a hard thing for most cats to adjust too, but most do it with time. However, I wouldn't want to put that kind of long term strain on a cat with a chronic illness like IBD.

In the best of situations, a new pet of any sort is stressful. And stress is what triggers IBD flare ups. Since you already know that she does best in a one cat family, the decision is pretty clear.

Thanks guys for your replies!! I really pretty much know it's a BAD idea... but whenever weekends come around and I know that Petco and Pet Smart have Adoption Day going on, I get the kitten fever feeling again... I needed you guys to remind me that it would not be a smart idea!!! Gotta look out for my Andie! Thanks!

Oh, please! I have four cats and I still get kitten fever! They're just so cute and adorable. I've settled for living vicariously through all the members here who have kittens.

Ooohh, good idea! I will do the same. I live vicariously through a lot of people... people with kittens, people who dont have money problems, people who dont completely HATE their jobs (wait, is there anyone like that?), people with a functional relationship and a boyfriend who is NOT immature and selfish... lol... oh, the list goes on!
