Why?! I got this listing the other day from freecycle.

Quote:
He is a loving, cuddling 13 year old light brown tabby. The sweetest
cat ever. Have had him his whole 13 years and now have to part ways.
His name is Cocoa and he is a lap cat. He has no problems with other
cats or dogs or any animals for that matter. He is declawed and fixed.
Must be indoor only. He has never been outdoors. Would be wonderful for
someone who doesn't have the time or patience for a kitten but would
like the companionship of a little lover boy.

I can send a pic or two if you're interested. Please kind, cat lovers
only respond. He has been a wonderful companion for 13 years and
deserves to live the rest of his life with love.

Blessings!
Julie
I can see listing a toaster or an old chair but come on....your "beloved" pet of 13 years??

I haven't been able to bring myself to delete the email but I know my DH would never allow another cat right now. Poor guy. Why??

whats scary is that it doesnt say why. surely the owner didnt fall out of love. Did they become allergic? Did they have a kid who is allergic? Are they moving some place where animals arent allowed? (although thats less common now as animal rights people have stepped in).

thats whats got me wondering. Poor kitty regardless.

Maybe there is some huge life change that is forcing the person to do this. Poor baby, it will be a hard transition on her.

If I had something happen that meant I HAD to get rid of Pegs, then it would have to be serious enough not to want to tell all and sundry.

On Freecycle around here you aren't allowed to post animals... don't know what the rules are there.

So sad, that poor cat is going to have its world turned upside down.
I hate how old pets seem to also be dropped off, I see it allot in horses and its very depressing.

Why are you assuming she's got a choice? Better to be given a good home than just ignored and dumped in a river wouldn't you say?

Yeah, at least they are'nt dumping Cocoa out on the street.

I have it worked out with my Dad and Sister, if something ever happens to me they will take Duchess and care for her, which might be a problem coz they both love her . I am only 46 but you never know.

The more people I meet the more I love my cat!

i have no doubt if something were to happen to me, my parents would keep my cats (since i live with them now, so do the cats). and they would be spoiled just as much as now.

Honestly...I understand there are circumstances in everyone's lives. I am all for finding a pet a better home if you cannot provide one for it. But to just list your pet on freecycle...a site set up for people to post things they don't need anymore so they don't end up in the trash...seems a little heartless and lazy to me. It doesn't seem like an appropriate place to go to find a new home for a "beloved" pet. I am signed up to receive emails from freecycle so if anything I could use for my Girl Scout troop happens to pop up I can respond. It makes me very angry when I get a listing from them from people trying to dump their pets. I have seem my share of little critters like rabbits and hamsters and occasionally dogs and cats. It just seems like there are better places to go to find a good home for your pet than a site like freecycle. Seeing family pets listed amongst broken chairs, tv's, left over yarn and things you would find at a garage sale is what ticks me off.
