Wanting to adopt a new kitten

Hi everyone...we have decided to get a new kitten for our home...Grissom is now 2 going on 3 and feel its a perfect time. I really want to adopt one from the cat shelter but man they dont even make it possible...if you rent they want this and that....if you own they want to visit your house....meet everyone in your home....all the pets....etc etc...not to mention the 250.00 tag they put on a kitten and I help and dontate there often!!!

So is there a spot in here were we can talk about adoption...I am in Boston. I would like to adopt a female...personally a cuddley baby...grissom if my baby but he is very independent...

With the recent health issues you've posted about Grissom lately, do you think this is a good time to bring a new kitty in the house?

I understand wanting a kitten, but I think I'd wait until Grissom is eating properly and 100% better.

I agree with Marie, you don't want to stress Grissom right now and one of the biggest stresses you can put a cat through is adding another. Once he's eating fine I'd wait at least 2-3 months before making any changes.

Not sure what shelter you're referring to, but I've adopted from the MSPCA and they didn't have the restrictions you're talking about, of course that was 11 years ago, so it may have changed...

I think all of the area Petsmarts and Petcos have adoption days, when Rescues come in with their cats. Many Petsmarts have cats there all the time. The Rescues vary....so the adoption rules will as well. If you go to one store and don't like the rules, go to another, they could be very different.

Quite a few of us adopted our cats from Craigslist. There is a risk (Cleo was sick when I got her and I didn't know it), but there's usually no contract and the cost isn't nearly as high as adopting through a rescue.

The twins were adopted through an rescue organization, with a contract, and they cost a pretty penny, but they're worth it. Plus I got all of their medical records virtually from birth, and if any health problems had come up after I adopted them, they would have been taken care of. And I know my money went towards helping more cats and kittens.
