Love bites... what are they?

What does it mean when they do it?

Ive heard talk of this, and suspect i might know what it is, but no idea what it means to them when they do it. Could someone help me out?

Are you talking hickeys here or the little nips that cats give you?

seeing how its in the cat chat section I would assume hes talking about kitty bits.

Love bits are little soft bites your cats gives you kind of like grooming to show you affection. These are not suppose to be encourage due to the fact your cat might think its okay to bite

Arianwen has two kinds of play bites.
One is a very gentle, affectionate nip when I pet her or playing with her. She is treating me like a trusted feline friend when she nips me like that.
The other is a bite, a little bit short of breaking the skin. That one is a warning bite telling me to stop whatever it is I'm doing. A good example of that is when she's had enough brushing.
I don't get warning bites very often, but I know when Arianwen means business.

Sounds like Arianwen and Duchess are kindred spirits. She give me the same love bites. Soft nips when playing and sharper bites when "thats enough" brushing, petting, playing...

The more people I meet the more I love my cat!

My cats usually do it when they are 'grooming' my hand/arm... usually when on the computer desk. lol. I might give them a kiss on the head but usually since im on the computer i dont think im over playing with them or over petting them...

So, its a way of showing affection? Its funny cuz they will do it, but then they will lick the exact same spot as if to say 'if that hurt, im sorry'. it never hurts though, it doesnt even leave marks.
