stressful surgery tomorrow

My cat Squirt has had both kidney and bladder oxalate stones for awhile, although he has been having trouble peeing these last few weeks. He also has a grade IV/V heart murmur, which just recently got worse. My vet and I discussed the options, and after an x-ray where we saw more stones/bigger stones, decided on surgery to remove the bladder stones. Hopefully, he will come out of anesthesia ok, even with his heart condition.

Please keep Squirt in your thoughts and prayers. He is my baby. I have taken care of him for 6 years, and I don't know what I would do w/out him. He also has megacolon (chronic constipation), and I give him an enema at home every 3 days or so. He is the best, sweetest boy EVER and has been tolerant of so much in his short life.

Thank you,
Karie and Squirt

Sending prayers to the Cat Gods here for Squirt. My Rebel has a grade IV murmur and needs dental work. My vet said there is very little worry because of the new anesthetics now used on cats. That should be good news for Squirt!

May I ask you about Squirt's megacolon? I'm beginning to think that is Rebel's problem. He has been plagued with severe constipation for nearly a year, and the petroleum jelly doesn't seem to help any more. He was completely impacted last week and had to stay at the vets' for enemas. I also give him peas, for the cellulose. How was Squirt diagnosed?

By the way, my neighbor has a wonderful cat named Squirt. His mother's name is Half-Pint.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

Be well, Squirt! Please let us know how it goes.

You give enemas to a CAT? Wow, I thought giving shots if they had diabetes sounded bad.

Thanks for all of the kind thoughts. Squirt just went into surgery. The vet already scared me once by calling me to let me know they were starting. And sigh, yes, he gets enemas, along with fluids for his kidneys...he is extremely chilled out for a cat, thank goodness. I couldn't imagine giving an enema to any of my others, although I did have a diabetic cat before, so I have had to give shots, too. CataholicsAnonymous, I will get back to you tonight with some info. regarding megacolon and what worked for Squirt (before it no longer did and the regular enemas were a last resort).

Thanks,
Karie and Squirt
