Anyone tried the new RFID cat flaps ?

I noticed there's at least three companies doing RFID cat flaps now - one with a collar tag and two that read your kitty's chip. Anyone had any experience of any of these?

The first RFID cat flaps had problems with sometimes not reading the kitty's chip. I imagine that's been solved in these newer models.

I don't like the idea of a kitty needing to carry a RFID "key" on a collar. What if the tag got damaged, or the collar came off? I would want the door to be able to reliably read a cat's injected ID microchip and not depend on something that could get damaged of lost.

Still, I wouldn't let Arianwen out by herself in this area.
But that's just me, and this particular neighborhood.

I did wonder about that. Plus it seems all the manufacturers seem to be in England right now - I wonder if they would read US kitty chips? I know one of them is particularly sensitive to one of the thermographic chips used in England and some owners have had to double-chip their pets for the door to work.

Sounds cool, but it would cost me a fortune to replace the collars. The one we have now I had to tape down the catch because it was costing too much to replace the keys.

We're seriously thinking about this, as the next door cat comes into nick peggy's food. She doesn't always catch him at it, and when she does, it's not a pretty sight.

Obviously we're doing as much research as possible to find the best one we can afford.
