The cat who was sent home to die

About a week ago one of the more unimaginative vets in the practice we go to diagnosed Buzzy with anemia and told us there wasn't any hope. She sent him home with us and said to call when we were ready to euthanize. Does this look like a cat that was given no hope?

We were out on the deck in the swing this afternoon and he was enjoying the sun and cleaning himself.

After a while we moved over to the picnic table and snuggled. Note the healthy pink color of his nose. It was stark white last week.

Thank god for good vets who care about the animals entrusted to them

Sue

He's beautiful! And he looks healthy. Did another vet prescribe something for him?

The owner of the practice came home from vacation. He is the one I usually go to. He took a lot of time researching Buzz' situation and found several different plans to try. Fortunatlly the first plan seems to be working. Doxycycline and prednesone.

He looks like a happy, content kitty. I am so happy for both of you.

Buzzy looks so happy and healthy, Sue. With his pink nose and the pinkish cast to his ears, you wouldn't know anything is wrong. Good thing your usual vet came home from vacation.

I have twice been given dire news in a cold, clinical and unfeeling way by 'replacement' vets who are covering for the usual vet while on vacation. I think they need some people skills. Or a swift kick in the shin.
Neither time resulted in immediate euth, though one did not make it through our struggle to save her some weeks later.

Buzzy looks happy and content. AND quite healthy, I might add...

Wow =\ Have you talked to your regular vet about this person?

thats just terrible!!!

isnt anemia low iron? How is that incurable and should be euthanized?? Im glad you got a second opinion!!!

I have a question though - the pink color of the nose means health?? What about a black cat with a black nose? (although, she does have one pink nostril, only the inside of it lol). Boo has some tan but most of her is black.

I have had some nasty experiences with vets over the years to, so I can somewhat understand what you are going through. He looks so happy right now though, you must be extremely happy for him! I love that last picture, he looks so relaxed!

Pink nose + normal washing. Yeah, that cat looks REALLY sick

So glad you got the vet with a brain to re examine her.
