Brought Bosco into the vet yesterday, he'd been off his food for a day and a half which isn't normal for him, he LOVES his food. His blood sugar had gone from being in a 8 - 15 range to 22 and then went back down to 14 over night. He wasn't moving just laying around (more then usual) and looking spaced out. He'd had runny stool for the past 2-3 days and hadn't been seen drinking water for a day and a half which again is unlike him.
Vet wanted to do a complete blood test, IV fluids, antibiotics. He had a fever and wasn't himself even at the vets usually he'll do anything to get on the floor and hide under the chairs but this time he just laid on the table (of course he had enough left in him to put up one **** of a fight to avoid being put in the carrier). He would be staying overnight. Vet called this morning, his fever is gone down(due to the antibiotics) and he ate over night (probably because his fever was gone down). The blood test was back and showed a couple things about his liver was 2-3x higher then usual. So now they think he could have a blocked bile duct and want to due an x-ray but the x-ray may not show it so then there is an ultrasound which he would need to be sent to another guy as they don't have an ultra sound in this clinic so its going to cost a pretty penny for an ultra sound (over $450 and the bill is already twice that without the x-rays and ultra sound), then if it is a block there is going to be sugery. But they aren't sure if it is even a blocked bile duct this is all a guess but there is something going on with his liver.
We don't have the money for this with Blake benched and me just starting a new job. His mom has said she'll help as no one wants to put a cat down unless there is no hope for the cat. Some good thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Update for now is they are going to do the ultra sound, a guy from Guelph is coming in to do it and will also be doing the surgery if it is a blocked duct. They've also mentioned it could be stones and said he'd have to be on medication for the rest of his life, which isn't a big deal for us, we already give him two shots a day and he's fine with those but it may not be so great in Bosco's eyes nor our bank accounts. Told them before going ahead and doing the ultra sound to phone us when the guy gets there so we can see what the likelyhood of Bosco being "normal" again is or if this will return, be an ongoing problem etc. Still aren't sure if it's a blockage, said it could just be his blood vessels swelling up and making it seem like a blockage. But why would they swell up to this extent is the question? Poor guy.
