Doggone it!

A longtime friend had rescued mama cat and her 6 kits. I had made arrangements to adopt a beautiful little female LH gray tabby. I got an email this morning that they had all of the kittens neutered, spayed AND declawed. I'm so bummed! Neither Jazz or Misha are declawed, nor will I ever declaw another cat.

Back to square one!!!

Re: Doggone it!

So because they declawed the kittens and the one you wanted you no longer want it?
Why would it matter that your two present cats aren't declawed?

Re: Doggone it!

Perhaps it's a question of self-defence for the de-clawed cat? Just a suggestion.

I don't understand...

There are plenty of households out there that have that mixture though, in my experience it doesn't matter. Declawed cats are pretty good at holding their own in a household (outside is a completely different matter of course).

Re: Doggone it!

that seems like a horribly expensive thing to do for an entire litter of kittens, especially without asking the new owners if they had a preference. Maybe they thought it would make the kittens more appealing to potential owners? That's such a sad thought.

I can completely understand your decision and don't think you should be judged for it. The kitten will find another great home in no time.

It is very sad for you to lose out on a new kitty though

Re: Doggone it!

I can't, knowing I have a bully cat, bring a fully declawed kitten into a home with two fully clawed cats. She would have no defense. If Misha weren't the bully that she is, it would be a different story altogether. I know she'll find a good home and if she's not adopted, I know the current owners will make a excellent home for her.

That's all. It's not because she's declawed that would make her less of a pet, it's the environment into which she would be placed.
