The Cattery Question

Hi everyone! I would be grateful if any of you feline fans out there could give me any advice about putting my cat in a cattery for the first time.
My little cat Google is now four months old and at Christmas we are going away abroad for 6 days . I have not let her outside , as I am waiting till she is spayed at 6 months , which would be soon after Christmas. She is such a sociable , fun-loving cat that I don't know whether she is happier staying in her own home with a neighbour coming in to feed her , and a couple of friends on odd days to play with her , or is she better off in the safety of a cattery?
How stressed might she be from an alien environment ? I have visited a cattery or two and the place is nice enough , but I have also heard of tales of cats being very bored and stressed in their small quarters.
Any cattery experiences you can share?

Re: The Cattery Question

I hate to even leave my cats at the vet office if I don't have to.
I think pets much prefer their own homes, especially for short duration vacations of the family. However, if you HAD to board a cat, I'd say a younger cat is much better at handling the stress of the changes than an older cat who is set in their ways.

Re: The Cattery Question

I would leave my cats in their own home if possible.

If someone is coming to feed Google every day, and others are coming to play with her, that's great.

Pictures, please!

Re: The Cattery Question

I've always left my cats at home, with a friendly and reliable neighbor to provide the food and the love.

Re: The Cattery Question

I think most cats, even 5 month old kittens like Google, prefer their own, familiar homes.

Re: The Cattery Question

Thanks for the various comments, it has helped Google and I come to a decision - best to let her stay in her own home with some home visits from trusted friends and being fed each day by a neighbour.
Somebody said "pictures please! " and I felt a wave of motherly pride come over me , so..............

I also found it fun to upload little videos of Google on youtube, to be able to send it to friends more easily , so if anyone wants to see Google playing football......
