I have taken the first step...

I contacted the rescue/adoption center about my two kittens.

I've learned that the same lady I worked with when we first moved to this property and I needed help with the feral cats/kittens is still there. She was out of town but is returning tomorrow and will contact me.

Bella has had a light, unproductive cough off/on for several weeks and I learned the reason why, today:
She vomitted up some round worms. Ugh! I know that by contacting the adoption center, they can administer all these kittens need: worming, shots and spaying. I will miss them when they go, but I know I gave them a wonderful chance at a new life of love, living with a family.

Both of them napped with me this afternoon, sleeping at the crook of my knees. *bittersweet smile*

Re: I have taken the first step...

It's so hard, isn't it, Heidi.

Sarah and Ellie, the two kittens I'm not adopting, will be going back to the shelter on Saturday. I'm going to work hard with them this week to make sure they'll be ready. It'll be so very sad to see them go, but I know it's the right thing to do.

Re: I have taken the first step...

I know. With the loss of Mousie a few weeks ago, I'm down to 9 cats. I just can't see continuing to add to my 'herd', even with these two sweet kitties. I will, however, tell my adoption Lady that I will take them back and keep them if they do not get adopted, though I hope they will get adopted together.

I will also offer to foster/tame litters of kittens. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it.

Heidi without you they surely would have died. Now they have the best chance at a good life. You are their hero.

You are doing the best thing for them, especially helping with Bella's worming (Baby had that too a couple of times).

Re: I have taken the first step...

I had planned on calling the Adoption place today anyways, but the worms sort of cemented it. I did stop at my vet office to see if I could just pick up some de-wormer but they advised they would need to see the cat as it is an Rx medicine. I can afford to feed these cats, but I cannot afford to pay for veterinary care for fosters as that takes away what I can afford to do for my own pets.
