Just Neutered....Question

My 5 month old cat Yoda was just neutered on Thursday. We've kept him away from the older boy cat and tried to limit his running around etc. Yesterday he started licking, and just keeps on licking..now it's pretty red, no open sores or scratches. Anything we can do, or just leave it alone, or do we take him in right away.

He may need to wear an e-collar for a while to prevent him from licking the site. You can get one at stores like PetSmart, or from your vet.

Re: Just Neutered....Question

Call your vet and explain what Yoda is doing and how his 'area' is looking. Your vet may want to see him to rule out an infection, which would need antibiotics and probably an E-collar to prevent him from being able to reach that area because his attention to it is keeping it irritated and inflamed. You may want to see if you can get a "soft" E-collar. They are more flexible and allows the cat to eat/drink and relax much better, but the edges of the collar are long enough to prevent the cat from being able to lick.
