Cat Flap Question

Lately I've been looking into getting a kitty door for our room. Torri's the only cat we want in there so that limits the options to the flaps that have collars to let only specific animals in.

Basically we want the door to allow her access whenever she wants, but keep the others out. She likes to come out in the house, but Jitzu bullies her, so she needs to be able to escape if she wants to. And the other kitties can't go in our room, partly because it's torri's safe place, but mostly because Jitzu would eat the spiney mice, and gerbil if she got to them.

Here's the complication. Torri likes to play pawsies under the door with the boys. I need a door that the collar won't trigger unless she's actually going THROUGH it, not sitting beside.

Hopefully the door that works will be affordable...*crosses fingers* otherwise i'll have to save up before I can buy it.

Any ideas???

Re: Cat Flap Question

I've seen blueprints posted on the internet for structures which consist basically of a short tunnel or chamber with cat flaps at both ends, so the cat can only open one door at a time. That would be a solution for your problem, although whether such a solution is practical for you is something only you could decide.

Re: Cat Flap Question

An option to consider, though it will mean more "work".
How about putting the flap activated by a collar into the wall away from the door? It would mean cutting into the drywall on both sides and having to put trim around the flap, but it could also be removed/patched/painted if you ever move or need to sell.
