Kitty Crack

Velvet discovered catnip two days ago. The tiniest (and I mean TINY) pinch and he was a madman. Rubbing against the carpet, howling, performing incredible acrobatics. It was nuts. How do your fuzzballs respond to this stuff? Do all cats go ballistic like this?

Anybody got remedies for splitting their sides from laughter?

Re: Kitty Crack

Catnip used to make Oliver go nuts and then it mellowed out Delia.

I haven't tried it on Fozzy yet. He gets this crazy nervous twitch, that I'm afraid catnip will just amplify that.

Re: Kitty Crack

Most of my kitties love catnip. I do have one that seems totally immune, and another that is somewhat indifferent to the old nip. The others trip over themselves when they hear me go into the cabinet where it is located, they can't get a fix fast enough.

Re: Kitty Crack

Shasta is a catnip fiend! I put little pinches on the carpet, spaced at least 2' apart to prevent any squabbles and Shasta will follow me, meowing excitedly, from pinch to pinch to get the first sniff/taste from each pile. The other kitties will eat it, roll in it, and get all wild-eyed. Toby used to drool all over it and get it stuck to his face/fur. I have a few soft/fuzzy cat toys with velcro bellies that I can put catnip in and those become popular toys until the catnip smell fades away.
LuckyDuck has no reaction to catnip because he has no sense of smell. I'm sure he cannot smell because when my husband smoked or had a glass of scotch, LD would put his face right in it and take several big sniffs. Any other cat would have immediately wrinkled their muzzle in disgust and pulled away when they were still inches from the offensive odor. LD has no reaction so I conclude he cannot smell at all.

Re: Kitty Crack

(((HUGS))) for LD!
Arianwen loves her nip, but she doesn't go totally crazy with it. She gets real playful, though, and will take bites of it and chew it through her fur, to get the scent on her.
