oogie-woogie eye boogies!

So, usually after a nap, Nito will have little eye crusties in the inner corners of his eyes. Not the green thick stuff that would indicate eye infection, but the brownish or clear crusty stuff that most people get when they wake up. So many people are appauled when I simple use a finger to gently wipe them off. I get EWW's and GROSS's all the time.

Is it really that gross? What do you people do? Leave them there or wipe them off? Nito is a white cat, and they are so unsightly! Plus I know how good it feels to get my morning crusties out, why shouldn't he get the same?

I always get rid of Nefertiti's little crusties. In fact, I do it to all of my pets, past and present. I hate those things, and can't wait to get rid of them! Nef is so patient with me too; she just sits there while I do it as if to say "Jeez, your a crazy lady, but I'll humor ya 'cause you feed me!!"

I usually wipe them off with warm water on a paper towel. They really seem to like that.

Re: oogie-woogie eye boogies!

I usually just leave them there. I am generally not one to be bothered by anything related to my cat, but for some reason the eye crusties really gross me out. Although his nose and the bottom of his face is white he has a black "mask" just around his eyes, so they kind of blend in unless he's up close. However, after this thread I'm starting to feel bad about leaving them there, I hope they don't bother him! Maybe I'll start using a washcloth or something.

Jack's are always just hard and crusty so I just use my finger and deposit them in the trash.

Harley's aren't as nice as he is a herpes kitty that struggles constantly with eye yuckies, so normally with him I use a square of toilet paper to get them off.

I tell mine that Mommy likes clean, clean eyes, and I wipe the sleepy dust away. My vet says she gives her cats until noon to do it themselves, and if not she cleans them. It doesn't bother me. It's only sleepy dust!

Arianwen always gives herself a face-wash after a nap, especially after a long nap.
She doesn't get eye boogies, that I notice. She has dark "eye-liner" fur, so it's hard to tell anyway.

Doran gets crusties sometimes...I wipe them away with a finger.

Muffin gets worse ones, the feline herpes thing. I wipe it with my finger, then wash my hands. He does seem to feel better once I've done it though. I check him a few times a day.
