Adoption... Should I?

I have a question... and it breaks my heart that I even have to ask it... but my cat sammy has a mouth problem, and we dont have enough money to pay for the surgery he needs. But the big question is... Should I put him up for adoption and give him to a better home that can pay for the surgery he needs? I love him more than anything, but I want him to have the best care possible. Something came up and we had to use our vet savings for it. So should I?

Re: Adoption... Should I?

Do you have a long relationship with your vet? If so, ask if you can make payments. With the economy the way it is, more pets are being given up for health issues that the owners can't afford to take care of right now.

Canine kids - Bennett & Bailey (always in our hearts), Riley, Banker, Rogue and Boz
Feline kids - Zoey, Talley and Abra

Re: Adoption... Should I?

If by putting him up for adoption you mean putting him up on craigslist or some such thing I can tell you know it won't be very promising. People who have healthy pets can barely keep them right now let alone take one in that has a possibly spendy surgery needed.

If you can't come up with the money, your vet won't take payments and can't get something like care credit I'd suggest taking him into your local no kill rescue or humane society where they at least can get him the surgery before trying to adopt him out.

What is the surgery if you don't mind me asking?

What is Sammy's mouth problem and what is the surgery that needs to be performed, the name of it.

I'm not sure, but the problem is loss of enamel and something with symptoms similar to scurvy
