Re: Cat stories

Yes! The Slum Cat by Ernest Seton Thompson. I read it when I was about 7 and I think that's when I fell in love with cats for life. Actually at the time I read pretty much everything by him and that's how I fell in love with all animals. lol!

Re: Cat stories

Btw, here's a link to The Slum Cat if anyone is interested. I think the illustrations are brilliant - I loved them as much as the story.

Warning!!! It is not very politically correct given that it was written quite some time ago. So, if you're sensitive about that kinda stuff, don't read.

Re: Cat stories

Thanks for the link! In my book, the more politically incorrect, the better.

lol!

Well, I'm not bothered by it either - I think you have to consider things in the context of the time period. But I respect that other people may be more sensitive to that kind of thing, so I felt I should give a fair warning.

Re: Cat stories

My favorite bedtime stories as a kid were the poems from "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" by T.S. Eliot. It is still one of my favorite books, and T.S. Eliot my favorite poet. It seems like every cat I've ever owned has resembled at least one of those fictional cats, and I love "The Naming of Cats" and "The Ad-dressing of Cats" in particular.

A local bookstore has it, and it's on my shopping list.

Re: Cat stories

Heart of a Tiger by Marsh Diane Arnold

This is a children's book, but it has a great story and beautiful illustrations. It tells the story of how a small kitty with the simple name of "Little Four" becomes named "Bangali Sher Ka Dil" (Heart of a Tiger) at the forest ceremony where the animals are given their adult name.
