Before we bought our two somali cats (imported to France from Denmark), we read that those cats could bring back a ball, just like a dog would.
So obviously, I taught them to walk with me like a dog, with a leash, and I also heard about 'clicker training'.
I bought a book about clicker training, and started to train the two kitties.
They loved it, and each of them had their specialty.
Alekhine was better at standing on his behind legs, and Balou could give his paw, just like a dog.
I trained them every evening for about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on when they grew tired of the play.
Since we didn't want our cats to get hit by a car or catch some illness, they were never just let out. We couldn't put a fench around the place we lived, so they were out in a leash, which they loved. They had never tried anything else, except for the few times they escaped (one morning we found the carden covered in grass vomit - what a party! Let's eat grass, til we vomit
One day, we were working inside the house, and it was only after about 20 minutes that we found out that it was pouring down outside.
THE CAT! We looked at each other and ran out in the garden. Alekhine had chosen to stay inside, so only Balou was out in the rain.
He sat in the middle of the garden, all alone, dripping wet, the sky gray behind him, and he gav us his paw with a very sad and lonely look on his face - please...
I wish I had had my camera with me.
The poor cat came inside as fast as possible
