bringing home another cat

I've had Max-i about 2 years now. She was a rescue cat. She's about 7 years old. She's got the most pleasant disposition. I was tempted to adopt either a kitten (which I've never had) or another young cat. Can anyone give me any thoughts on what it would do to Max-i to introduce another cat or kitten into her home?
Thanks so much in advance.

Well, what I did when I bought Kitty home at 8 weeks, just let them have a sniff-sniff of each-other, and maybe put the new kitten in their own little room for the time being. Every now and then let them out to have a sniff of each other. That's what I did, and it turned out quite well.
