Yesterday I opened a can of Friskies 'Salmon Dinner', one of Missy's favourites. Normally she'll eat what I put out, which is usually a heaped teaspoon because that's about what she'll eat at one time. If it's not enough she'll come and ask for more. I put out the usual, but she just picked at it, and I got worried that she was unwell. I threw out one serving when I thought it had been out long enough. Another went down later. It, too, got only a nibble.

Then later she went over to the dish and scraped all around as though she was trying to cover it in the way she covers waste in her litterbox. Somehow I got the idea I was being given a message.

I threw the rest of the can out, and tried her with a clean dish and a different flavour. Whoosh! And it was gone.

In case you're wondering, I always keep unused portions of the can in the fridge.

Now a question. Have any of the members here had problems with individual cans of food being rejected?

I've had it happen, but it's rare. My rule is "3 times refusal and it's out." Could be there's something wrong with that particular can or batch and the cats sense it. It might smell ok to me, but I trust my cats superior nasal sensitivity.
