Cats and Other Animals?

Growing up, I had a cat and a dog, and they got along fabulously. So I know that, if you do it right, cats and dogs can get along just fine. But, what about other animals, such as ferrets? How do cats react in the presence of an aquarium?

I'm interested in getting turtles (big ones, ones that I can pet and hand-feed). How do you suppose cats would interact with outside-their-aquarium turtles?
Or, like I mentioned, ferrets?

I'm also interested in hearing some stories! How did your kitties react when you brought home other animals? A new puppy? Another kitten? Or other more exotic pets?

I know with some exotics, it is not worth the risk. I own sugar gliders and my cat is not allowed to play with them. Cat bites are extremely toxic to them. He watches them and will even sleep on the cages, but if they are out, he is up! He can't bite them through the bars and he doesn't have claws, so I don't worry. It ticks him off when they run up and grab his fur though!

I think having a cat and other small animals is fine as long as you use common sense. Ferrets are hunters, they will kill a cat or be killed easily.

With ferrets - I think it depends on the cats and the ferrets as to how they get along. I have a friend that tried bringing a ferret into her home with a cat and it did NOT work. But then I have read online of ppl who own both and they get along fine. So I think it depends on the animals.
