A cat with identity issues

I just saw this video, and I'm kind of shocked. I'm wondering if the cat is REALLY mimicking the dogs it was raised around, OR if she's maybe in heat? Sick?

Either way, I mean, it's a video I found on Icanhascheezburger.com and I most likely won't get any background on the cat. But it would be funny if the cat just enjoyed barking like a dog, rather than meowing like a cat. Either way, I'm rambling, here's the vid.

It sounded just like a dog!! Not sure if the kitty is in distress, or has learnt to bark?

I've never heard of a cat trying to mimic the sound of anything or anyone else, but I wouldn't be surprised if this kitty is in heat. Cats who are in heat can make the strangest noises.

A woman with five cats moved into my neighborhood a few months after I did. Two of her girls are not spayed, unfortunately, and one of them screams like nothing I have ever heard in my whole darn life. EVER. I initially thought it was a baby being abused and left to cry for hours on end, but when I tracked the noise back to its source - cell phone in hand ready to dial 911 - I found the poor cat. It was a profoundly disturbing incident.

The cat's crying keeps me awake at night, wakes me up when I do get to sleep, and routinely upsets my own kitties. Not to mention how unhealthy it is for the poor girl herself. By the time her heats end, her voice is reduced to a bare whisper, as painful to listen to as the screaming was annoying.

rant/ I can't STAND people who don't care for their animals!!! GRRRRR...... /rant

Two weeks ago, I offered to pay for the cat's spay, and since she just got out of her latest heat, we'll see if the family takes me up on it.

AC

P.S. I heart LOLCats in the biggest way.

That cat doesn't sound like a dog, it sounds like a cat that's very upset or in heat. I feel bad for it. My cat can make a similar noise.

The first part of the cat looking out the window, I thought it sounded like a dog barking outside but not the cat making the sound, only near the end did it start meowing. I'm not convinced it is the cat "barking".

It still makes me giggle to watch. It's like he doesn't start being a cat again until he's found out with the barking. 'Woof... woof... woof.. Oh hai!... errr... I mean.... meow.... meow?'

My cats make sounds very similar to that, right before they cough up a giant hairball.

I agree, that little kitty wants a boyfriend

My mom's old cat who passed away years ago used to chirp at birds. It was the funniest thing! We would tease that he was using a lure like hunters do with duck calls

Here is a youtube video of another cat doing it. I never knew of any other cat doing it so i thought he was just weird but it seems to be common for them when watching prey.
