litter box frustrations!! ergh! travel anxiety or litter snob?
So, Tutu and I are back in the US finally. We're with my parents for a week, and she's loving it here (huge house, many windows, much wildlife).
Anyway, we were travelling for maybe 18 hours. Tutu is fine, she's done this before (first time she got a health check afterwards and all was well).
Usually Tutu uses the litter box overnight as soon as we stop travelling. She is sometimes "backed up" for as much as 12 hours, but that period is gone. She also has not urinated.
I'm worried it's the litter. It's "fine grained" clay. My mother being my mother bought the cheapest possible container of litter (store brand). I've introduced Tutu to it many times, even "moved the litter" with my finger as if covering something. She noted it, and even played with the litter once, but made no deposits.
It's in a safe place in my bathroom under the counter, it's certainly big enough, so there should be no situational issues.
I'm thinking she's just really backed up (I can see she's bloated) and is not producing urine because she has not excess fluids, since she did not get anything to eat for the first half of yesterday and she won't drink while travelling.
She did get plenty of canned food and did drink water last night.
How long is too long before you should be concerned about a cat not "producing"?
How do your cats act litter-wise when back from travelling?
