Questions about new kitten

Ok, well I didn't know that male cats can spray after being neutered. Call me dumb lol. I've had one cat , a female, as a child. I recently got a kitten and it is a male. I assumed I would never have to worry about spraying if I got him neutered early enough. But my family says, no, u should have gotten a female, your carpet will be ruined rather u neuter or not! Is this true? Is there anything I can do to prevent him from spraying? And also, I am considering buying softclaws for him, does anyone know if they work? I am worried about spending the 20 bucks and they just fall off. Thanks in advance for your replies, and nice to meet u all!

On occasion a cat sprays after neutering. However, I have never had that experience, and I've had many males. I haven't used soft claws, but I have heard good things about them. I hope someone with experience can tell you how they worked out!

I've only had problems with one male cat spraying. He 'eventually' grew out of it, but thats not the case for most. My grandmother got rid of all our un-neutered males because we were kids and didn't have any money.

Hmmm, I've had a lot of cats, mostly males and only 1 has sprayed, neutered or unnuetered. But then again that poor cat came to us as a stray and was a bit.. um "special" if you will. Bless his little soul RIP.

So yeah, there is no garuntee the cat will spray, I would say most males do not.

There are somethings you can do to prevent him from spraying but are not really necissary until/if the time comes that you need the info.

Softclaws I have heard mostly good reviews, I have not used them myself because well... money and all
Most people say they stay on for a good 4 weeks at least, I've heard one person say a couple would fall off during the 4/6 week duration and she would have to put them back on.
Other people say that it allows a place for bacteria and such to grow (just like the hazards of humans wearing fake nails) but I have never read any documented article to know if this was true.
