7 mo old male cat is attacking 3 month old female - HELP
Hi, it is my first visit to this forum, I hope someone has some advice for me.
I have a 7 month old neutered male kitten. I have had him for 5 months now, and I decided to get another kitten. I got a 3 month old female, not yet spayed.
The male cat up until now has been the friendliest sweetest cat in the world, but he viciously attacks the new kitten every time I let them be together for even a minute. He jumps on her and bites her on the neck and pins her down and she meows and when she finally pulls free, he chases her down and bites her and holds her down again. He bites her neck, her leg, her ear. He kind of stalks her - it is like he is playing with a big toy mouse. He pounces the same way as he does when he is playing. When he catches her, he grabs her and holds on and kind of uses his back legs to kick at her.
I tried all the things I had read about introducing a new cat to the household - I isolated them for a while, then let him smell a blanket she had slept on, etc, and he showed NO signs of aggressive behavior at all. But the instant he sees her, he goes after her.
I let it go on the other day, figuring maybe it was just some cat thing and it would work itself out, but he just kept at it and I was afraid he would injure the kitten.
The kitten, meanwhile, is used to being around other cats and is not afraid of him when she sees him. She goes right up to him to be friendly, and then he attacks her.
I have had cats my entire life and have never seen anything like this.
Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone seen this before? What do I do? Thank you for any advice.
