cat doors

Does anyone have a cat door? I plan on getting one so the cats have 24/7 access to the litter boxes on the back porch without us letting so much cool air out. We've thought about it before but little Bengo is forcing us to act now.
(see thread below for the story on Bengo)

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with trying to get their cats to use them or could recommend any certain kind or brand.

I use the staywell electric magnetic ones.
This means if your cats dont already they need to wear a collar asto attach a key to let them in and out, but the beauty of it is it keeps strays out.
If you look in my avatar that white thing on butches collar is they key. At first it bothered them but it doesnt seem to anymore.

We put a cat door in our basement door to allow Dusty access to his litter box. He took to the door more quickly than he took to the basement... It didn't take long for him to figure it out, but I had to shove him through it a few times for him to get the hint.

It doesn't have a magnetic activation though... If your cat door is going to lead outside, it might be a good idea to prevent strays and other critters from getting in.

This is the kind we got: Installing it was kind of a pain, as the template they provided sucked. But it does have a cool locking mechanism.

We have a pet door in the door out to the screen porch so the cats can go in and out without letting the heat or cold in.

It's just a simple kind. I think we mounted it a little too high. We thought they'd probably like to have it normal walking height but in practice they seem to prefer to crouch a bit. They got used to it pretty quickly but they still have to think for a while before going through, even after about 5 years.

The cats really like that it has a clear window in the flap itself (even though it is installed in a clear door?!). They always peer through carefully to see what's on the other side before going through and when I clean that part off well they go through more quickly and happily.

I'm not sure the brand or model, but it has a plastic frame, a swinging plastic flap that has a magnetic bit on the bottom to keep it closed generally but allow cat access. I think it has a way to lock it too but we don't use that.
