Trouble at the Dinner Table

Ever since we adopted Skeeter (about two and a half months, now), he has had this nasty little habit of jumping up in our laps when we are at the dinner-table to try to get a morsel of food off of our plates. Even when we try to eat a quick snack somewhere else in the house, he's right there jumping up on our laps, crawling up to our shoulders to get a closer vantage point, and sticking his nose in whenever he sees the SLIGHTEST opportunity. When he hops up on the table, we break out the squirt bottle, and he's gotten good about getting down before he actually get's squirted. But, he's jumped up into the laps of our guests, which is cute at first, but then he gets tenatious about getting some of our food! How do we train him to leave us alone when we're eating?? I use my flat palm to push his face away, and he just comes back or hops over to Jim's food. We put him down over and over when he jumps into our laps, but then he just finds another way. We'd like to eat in peace. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have a carrier? Maybe you can stick him in there after the first time he jumps up onto the table. Then keep him locked up until you're finished eating. Hopefully he'll learn that jumping on the table gets him put in kitty-jail.

That's a great idea Tanyuh...I think I'll even try that.
