..Does anybody know what TAURINE is and how I can find it?? I cook for my cats and have heard that it is very good for them..

Taurine is important for a healthy heart, vision, and a few other things. Most pet foods have taurine in them, and you can probably check the label to see just how much. I'm pretty sure its not a problem in most pet foods. I don't think you have to worry about your cat not getting enough.

Some people choose to feed a raw diet. Chicken hearts I believe are a great source of taurine.

I'm sure you'll get a few other people with more helpful info, but that's pretty basic for what it is and why they need it.

You can get taurine at a lot of health food stores, and it's easy to find online. I get mine at www.vitaminshoppe.com.

Cats need 60-80 mg of taurine daily. If you're using ground meat, you must supplement taurine because it is only in the juice, which is lost when the meat is ground. Taurine deficiency shows up as blindness and heart failure.

Cats are not as easy as dogs to make food for because they have so many specific and unusual dietary requirements. Here's a sample recipe you can look at to see what kinds of supplements are needed:
