new guy gets a name for Christmas
I've gotten a couple questions about when I'm going to name the new guy. Honest, I haven't been procrastinating...I really have been working at it! But, I've made it hard for myself. I should explain...
When I adopted my first two cats, Rocket's name popped into my mind in about five seconds. And he's completely lived up to his name. I originally named Mellie (given name Melody for her musical little voice) something else, but found I could never call her that, because it was a people name of someone I knew a long time ago.
When I adopted the new guy, I wanted to give him a name that reflected either his personality or his appearance. Well, for the first criterium, you have to take some time to get to know the cat. Secondly, it had to be a name that wasn't a people name, wasn't a common cat name, wasn't too cutesy, too precious, too obscure, etc. Thirdly, it had to have one or two syllables and not have the letters "s" or "p" (it's complicated). Fourth, it couldn't sound like my first two cats' names. Yes, it gets really hard at this point! Even so, I still had a list of over two dozen names, and I didn't really like any one. The last criterium was that it had to roll easily off the tongue, as it's going to get said many times each day.
Well, I finally settled on a name, and it violates rule #2. But it's a great fit for rule #5. Most, important I like it, and I tried it out on him, and I think he likes it. So...
He Shall Be Called ... TOMMY TWO-TONE
Merry Christmas, Tommy!! Welcome to my little family!!
